We are excited to announce the launch of the Academy of Marketing SIG Sustainability Showcase series, kicking off on 8 June at 12:00 with an online panel discussion bringing together leading researchers to take stock of where sustainability in fashion research stands today and where it is headed.

This inaugural online showcase features three distinguished scholars whose collaborative work has shaped the academic conversation on fashion and sustainability: Dr Claudia Henninger (University of Manchester), Professor Helen Goworek (Durham University Business School), and Professor Daniella Ryding (Manchester Metropolitan University), in conversation with panel moderator Dr Panayiota Alevizou (University of Sheffield Management School), who convenes this new series as part of the Academy of Marketing SIG Sustainability.

Together the four are editors of two landmark Palgrave Macmillan volumes: Sustainability in Fashion: A Cradle to Upcycle Approach (2017) and The Palgrave Handbook of Sustainability in Fashion (2025). Drawing on distinct but complementary research traditions spanning consumer behaviour, circular economy, sustainability communication and ecolabelling, the four editors come together to interrogate the field’s most pressing open questions across three critical themes: taking stock of what two decades of research has actually achieved; examining why the gap between knowledge and meaningful change remains so persistent; and asking who ultimately holds the power to move the field forward.
