ECR Capacity Building Workshops 2025
Beyond Rankings: Reclaiming Research Integrity in Marketing Scholarship
Tired of hearing that only “top-ranked” journals matter? Still haunted by Reviewer 2? Wondering how REF actually works beyond the myths?
Proudly supported by the Academy of Marketing Research Committee and the Marketing Trust, this full-day workshop takes place on 11 November 2025 at the University of Greenwich, with a hybrid option available for the morning.
This isn’t another dry lecture about metrics. Instead, expect a lively mix of myth-busting talks, hands-on exercises, provocative discussions, and even a satirical card game, “Publish or Perish.” Together, we’ll uncover the realities of academic publishing, laugh at the absurdities (yes, even Reviewer 2), and reflect on how perceptions of “quality” are often more about assumptions than substance. By the end, you’ll also help co-create a values-driven manifesto to push back against the obsession with rankings.
Speakers and facilitators include: Professor Scott McCabe, Professor Pauline Maclaran, Isabella Ye, Ph.D, Dr Amalina Zakariah, Dr Ratna Khanijou, Professor Neeru Dargan Malhotra, and Hannah Wilson (Research Integrity Manager). A special thank you to Wenjie Cai, Associate Head of the School of Management & Marketing – Research & Knowledge Exchange, for co-organising this event and providing such inspiring ideas in shaping the programme.
