Doing Policy-Relevant Research and Having an Impact

ECR Capacity Building Workshops 2025
Doing Policy-Relevant Research and Having an Impact
Join us for “Doing policy-relevant research and having an impact” on 19th November 2025 (11am-4pm) at the University of Strathclyde Business School dedicated to understanding, strategies and resources to support equitable and effective research-policy engagement.
Supported by the Academy of Marketing and the Marketing Trust and delivered by the Scottish Policy & Research Exchange https://spre.scot/ , this interactive day-long workshop is designed to demystify policymaking and highlight the opportunities for early career researchers to begin and develop their policy-engagement journeys.
Specially designed for marketing researchers, doctoral students, and Early Career Researchers (ECRs), we will provide an introduction to relational approaches to policy engagement, with a focus on the different purposes for policy engagement and the many potential impacts which may occur. We will also explore three concrete strategies: communication, collaboration and co-production, which participants can then apply in their own work.
By the end of the session, you should have:
- A basic understanding of the UK evidence-policy landscape
- An appreciation of policy engagement opportunities and strategies for mobilising evidence and expertise to have an impact
- Greater awareness of relevant personal strengths and opportunities for development
The workshop will include a mix of short provocations, group activities and discussions, and takeaway resources. Breaks (with lunch and catering) and multiple options for participating in the session will be included to help accommodate participants’ diverse preferences, energy levels and neurotypes. Apply here
Decisions made for acceptance onto this workshop will be made on Monday 27th October.
Support available: ECR, & PGR members of the Academy of Marketing are eligible to apply for a £100 travel bursary. Reimbursement is against receipts only, and awards are made via a points-based assessment considering career stage, distance, financial need, and potential career benefit. We particularly welcome applications from colleagues travelling from further afield or from institutions with limited conference funding – please contact Andrea Tonner (a.tonner@strath.ac.uk) for more information
